Feast of the Transfiguration
Dear Parents,
In recent years, we have seen some drastic changes in how we educate our children in the Faith. For example, our diocese confirms and gives First Holy Communion in the third grade. Such a blessing has come with its fair share of challenges. How do we continue to offer religious instruction after our children have been confirmed? In addition, the recent pandemic has presented even more challenges—how does one teach amidst quarantines and lockdowns?
The diocese has produced a curriculum that is structured according to the four pillars of the Catholic Church: The Profession of Faith (Creed), the Celebration of the Christian Ministry (Liturgy), Life in Christ (includes Ten Commandments), Christian Prayer (includes The Lord’s Prayer).
Our Bishop has mandated that all catechetical preparation materials, whether for parish, school, homeschool or sacramental preparation, be chosen from a list of approved texts. From this list, we have chosen to implement A Family of Faith by Sophia Press which is a form of family catechesis. A Family of Faith covers one of the pillars each year and rotates annually. This year, the schedule for this family formation will be as follows:
Thank you, dear parents, for all the sacrifices you have made for your children. Let us ask Our Lady to guide and strengthen us this year as we strive to grow in knowledge of and love for our Catholic Faith.
In Jesus and Mary,
Fr. Schultz
